2023 GNZ Service AwardsMarie Lakin - 20 years Service
Marie Lakin arrived at CSG with her daughters over 20 years ago. It wasn’t long before she was heavily involved in coaching classes, and then added administration. Marie took up the role of GFA Code Manager, managing schools, birthday parties, as well as General Gymnastics and Regional Competitive, plus preschool once Tracey E retired. Although some of those areas are managed by other staff now, the workload and commitment have not decreased. Marie is one of those people that quietly gets on with it, things happen behind the scenes, and it gets done. This award recognizes not only Marie’s enormous 20 years contribution to CSG, but also to gymnastics in Canterbury, by her support and running of the regional GFA competitions and the primary school competitions. Kendra Street - 20 years Service Kendra popped into the office looking for work around 2000 - she was working for Speed Skating NZ but needed more hours. With her Bachelor of Kinesiology and primary teaching degrees, she was a perfect fit. Since then, Kendra has run our preschool programmes, been GFA Manager, and is now Schools Programme Coordinator, and doing a fabulous job, especially with our Tū Manawa projects. These programmes bring gymnastics to the wider community in Christchurch. Kendra has been a coach for over 20 years, and also been a judge in both WAG and Trampoline and Tumbling, and is also CSG's Child Advocate. Kendra has a heart of gold, lives and breathes child development, and is always looking at ways to develop programmes and children’s experiences. She has been passionate, loyal and committed to CSG and gymnastics over 20 years. Maree Diver - 30 years Service Maree’s involvement in gymnastics also came about through her daughter’s involvement. Maree has been a parent, coach, committee member, administrator, Event Director and Accounts Manager. Maree was president of the club and heavily involved with the fundraising for the old church and the move from Fitzgerald Ave to QEII. Maree spent 14 years at Olympia Gymsports, as part of their admin team, but returned to CSG in 2018. Maree is one of those that goes above and beyond and just gets things done. She is very knowledgeable, generous with her time, and very much a key member of CSG. Maree is the club’s representative on the Provincial Nationals Committee and is on the Gymsports in Canterbury Trust. Maree is deeply involved in all facets of gymnastics in Canterbury and the sport is the better for it. Toby Levine - 20 years Service Toby came to CSG on his OE in 2004 and was a former gymnast of Jozsi’s. He quickly made himself invaluable by working in many of our programmes. Toby excelled himself as a Senior MAG coach when he donned a leotard and made-up numbers in the Level 9 Team for Canterbury. His return to competition was short lived, however his High Bar in Timaru will not be forgotten. Toby has coached STEP 1 and WAG up to Senior International, travelling to the World Championships in 2015 with the team as part of his development. After a short stint in Wellington, and some time back in the UK, Toby returned to CSG. He took over as MAG Code Manager until he relinquished that role to take paternity leave. Since returning from leave, Toby has worked in MAG, GFA and in WAG, and is on the MAG National Technical Committee, as well as a brevet judge now into his 3rd cycle. Toby also leads a lot of the internal coach development workshops and is the Staff Advocate. Toby is passionate, cares deeply about the sport and its athletes, and is a strong champion of Balance is Better. Past NZ Representatives
